The New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners has posted proposed increases to the licensing fees charged to physicians (and podiatrists, bioanalytical laboratory directors, midwives, physician assistants, acupuncturists, athletic trainers). The SBME is proposing an 97% increase in the current biennial registration fees. The current fee is $310 and the proposed increase would bring the fee to is $610. The Board states the reasons for the increase are necessary to fund a new telephone system and the new physician’s profiling system (mandated by legislation) to name a few. A copy of the proposed amendment can be obtained from the Society office.

It is imperative that physicians voice opposition to the fee increases. Comments are due by March 19, 2005. Now is the time to write your letters. Send the letters to:

Mr. William Roeder, Executive Director
State Board of Medical Examiners
PO Box 183
Trenton, NJ 08625-0183

Should you have any questions, please feel free to call the Society office.
